School Trustees
There are two bodies of Trustees involved in the running of the Albaraca Nursery School - one in The Gambia and one in the UK - and these two groups work closely together.
Gambian Trustees
The Gambian group of Trustees was formed in 2009 and comprises of prominent figures in the local community who are able to ensure the smooth running of the nursery school all year round. Gambian trustees are drawn from education, healthcare, local businesses and leaders in the community. Their presence reflects the reality that many issues are best dealt with locally at the time they arise. The current group of Gambian trustees is chaired by Bakary Jobe.
UK Trustees
The UK Trustees are based in the UK and are responsible to the Charity Commission. These responsibilities are to ensure that the aims of the trust are met. The current UK Trustees are:
John Adnitt - retired college principal
Margaret Adnitt - retired teacher
Janet Chattaway - retired lecturer
Lucy Corrin - investor relations consultant
Kevin Kelly - retired university lecturer in primary education & primary head teacher
Anne Moorehead - manager in a health charity
Issy Wong - professional cricketer
Rachael Wong (Chair) - author
Issy is the only trustee to have actually experienced education at the Albaraca School as a pupil when she visited the school as a child.
All the UK Trustees have visited the school, some many times, always at their own expense. On all visits, the UK trustees have been impressed with the enthusiasm of the teachers and the developing role of the Gambian trustees.
